The J. Percy Priest Powerplant is a one-unit 30 MW powerplant on the Stones River near Nashville,
Tennessee. The project came on line in 1969, and the generator experienced a coil failure in 1995.
Following this failure, the generator was repaired and since then has been
operating at
full capacity. However, due to its age and conditions, it is expected the
generator will experience another failure relatively soon.
This study was conducted to evaluate the benefits and costs associated with rewinding the generator
stator at the project. Based on the results of this study, it was recommended that the generator be
completely rewound.
