The Libby powerplant is a five-unit powerplant on the Kootenai River in Northern Montana.
It has a rated capacity of 525 MW and began producing power in 1976. The powerhouse was
originally constructed with eight turbine bays, but only five units have been installed.
The remaining units were to be installed following the construction of a reregulating dam
downstream of the project, however this was never constructed due to environmental
considerations.
The purpose of this study was to quantify the power benefits that would result from the
addition of one or more of the remaining three generating units
