Portland District Water Quality Sankey Diagrams

The Water Quality Sankey Diagrams are a specific type of flow diagram, in which the width of the arrows is shown proportionally to the quantity of flow. Sankey diagrams put a visual emphasis on flow and help in locating dominant contributors. Sankey diagrams can also represent other parameters, such as water temperature in this case, using coloring.

Each of the Corps storage reservoirs is designated by its three letter abbreviation: Lost Creek (LOS) and Applegate (APP). A plus (+) symbol indicates that the reservoir is augmenting the river, i.e. the flow out is greater than the flow in. A negative (-) symbol indicates that the reservoir is storing water, i.e. the flow out is less than the flow in. The daily average rate of augmentation or storage is indicated in cubic feet per second.
